A Story About Us
Uradale Farm started when Ronnie Eunson bought it in 1995. Ronnie commercially farmed Uradale for 5 years as he had done for 15 years previously, but found it so difficult to make a living when the live market was so volatile. So he decided to start finishing livestock and found a gap in the market with Shetland native lamb and beef. Ronnie sent a leg of lamb to Lidgates in London and old Lidgate loved the flavour, but asked Ronnie if he would consider going Organic as it was very important to his customers and created a better story. So by 2003 Uradale Farm was converted and certified Organic through SOPA and has kept its status 22 years later.
Fast forward some time and a lot of work on the farm and creating a niche market of Organic Shetland native lamb and beef Jakob Eunson, son number 3 aged 18 came on the farm full time after completing his butchery apprenticeship from a local butchers. With these skills Jakob has shifted the business to a complete field to fork business that focuses less on wholesale seasonal markets to weekly shop and cafe deliveries of beef all year round and lamb 9 months of the year. Customers can also come directly to the farm to buy Shetland native lamb and beef. All our livestock are slaughtered locally just 4 miles away and the taken back to our farm butchery that Ronnie built by himself.
Over the years Uradale Farm has picked up a nice couple accolades so here is a list of what our hard work has awarded us:
